The federation brings together 16 community based organizations registered as “TAI Vizhudugal” across the 12 TAI intervention districts such as Coimbatore, Madurai, Salem and Namakkal. Over 37,000 community members including marginalized women, kothis and transgenders are registered with the CBO. The Federation is the umbrella organization of these district-level CBOs, and its goal is to protect and promote the health and socio-economic empowerment of the members enrolled.
Over the past couple of months, the CBO has been carrying out intensive outreach campaign was conducted by CBOs in collaboration with NGOs to motivate the key population to get enrolled inside the federation and reap the benefits. The key population was charged Rs. 50 for joining the federation, and Rs. 20 for joining the local CBO. The campaign was backed with a video campaign explaining the benefits of the federation.
In addition to this, the CBOs organized mass shows for the general public, to evolve corpus for the Federation. The CBOs elected their representatives to contest for the election of the office bearers of the Federation. The election culminated in finalizing the executive board, member trustees and nominated trustees. The Federation was formally registered on the 12th of December.
